You know something is wrong in the world when people are inventing things like the internetcu.be, anonabox, piratebox, onion pi and Tor-Ingress. Guerilla mesh networking, TOR, VPN. All Open Source defences against unchecked government privacy invasions by out of control spy agencies and their illegitimate blanket data collection operations.

People take interest for varying reasons and for me I’m just pissed off at targeted advertising. The last straw for me was watching something on netflix and then seeing a related video in my youtube sidebar recommended for me. I lost interest in netflix too because of that and they can kiss my dollars goodbye forever (especially when they blocked Linux right after I asked them about it). I suppose a VPN would work just fine to foil youtube but why should we have to do this at all? To hell with them all I’d say and worse actually. Look into things a little and you’ll see their invasion of privacy goes way beyond targeted advertising.

The TOR Browser is not enough. TOR is so complicated for the average user that they streamlined it into a Live Linux Distribution. Tails makes it easier and much more secure and you can get it on Linux Magazine this month. But, you still need to VPN from another computer at a public wifi, and for what? A modicum of privacy? The state should never be as invasive as it is.

You can build your own hardware anonymizer like Adafruits Raspberry Pi implementation Onion Pi. Or you might be able to buy one. Either way, setting one up properly is quite important.
